Girl Time

The mother of one of Jordan's friends decided to take her daughter and Jordan out for some Girlie Time!  Jordan is not particularly GIRLIE, but seemed very excited to be spending time with her friend.  She dressed herself. They went to get their nails done!

The girls asked for lots of colors and little heart designs.  The designs turned out to be flowers, but were cute anyway!

What a nice way to be pampered after a great first week of kindergarten!

Hummingbirds in Our Backyard

A couple of weeks ago we set up a hummingbird feeder in our backyard.  We were not optimistic, as our neighborhood is still fairly new.  There are not a lot of trees and plants.  We have  a small amount of landscaping and a few hanging plants for them to enjoy.  We told Jordan not to expect much.  We waited and changed the solution every few days since it is so hot out.  We didn't see any for a couple of weeks and then it was time to go back to school.  That first week back, Blake reported that during the day he saw a hummingbird visit briefly each morning.  So Saturday, during breakfast, we kept our eye on the feeder.  Sure enough, a sweet little hummingbird enjoyed our feeder.  Today, Sunday morning, he brought back some friends.  They didn't seem to want to share the feeder, even though it has four feeding stations!  They kept chasing each other away.  What a fun way to spend a morning with family!

My Big Girl

Today was Jordan's first day of Kindergarten!  I was unable to drop her off since it was also MY first day of school with students.  So Daddy drove her, waited in the hot weather (even that early in the morning), and walked her into the Kindergarten area.  He was armed with cameras so that I could enjoy her day, too. She was dressed in a cute purple flowered dress with pink leggings and sparkly light-up shoes.  Her new backpack and lunch box had a cute orange kitty cat.  She had a fresh, stylish, big-girl haircut and a beautiful smile.  She arrived at Mr. Bryant's room and got straight to work on the handout he placed at her chair.

Ready
She made it happily through the day, and was excited to return tomorrow.  Sadly, we received a letter that the numbers in the Kindergarten classes were high.  They are adding a new teacher, and Jordan is one of the students that will be moved to the new classroom.  As a teacher, I completely understand that it has to be done.  As a Mommy, telling her that she would be changing teachers was heartbreaking.  She seemed pretty upset. We believe that she bonded with Mr. Bryant, and would benefit from being in his class.  However, we will be team players and make the best of the situation.

Working hard
On a funny note, Daddy went out and braved the stores on Tax-free weekend!  Mostly because our coffee pot blew out and we could not start school or even last ONE day without coffee.  He came home with a coffee pot, as well as some cute clothes for Jordan.  (yes, he does enjoy buying her cute little outfits) He had some t-shirts and matching skirts and shorts.  He also had dress type shirts and leggings and some jeans.  One particular pair was cotton, but looked like jeans-style leggings.  When Jordan saw them, she screamed with joy, "Pajama Jeans!!!"  Yes, I do believe she pays attention to all of those infomercials.  So, she will be wearing "Pajama Jeans" to her SECOND day of kindergarten.

Ready for Kindergarten

Jordan is ready for her first day of Kindergarten.  Daddy took her to get her hair cut yesterday.  Today she came down the stairs after lunch wearing her school spirit shirt.  I think she is very excited.  We went to a Kindergarten orientation at her elementary school.  It was mostly to tell the parents to lay off and let our babies grow up!  They had us all in the gym with our kids, and then they invited all the little kindergarteners to the library.  Off they went like a little herd of sheep!  The newbies (first-timers to sending a child to school), like Blake and I, watched with astonishment and skepticism as our children marched away without us.  Surely, they won't be able to control or entertain our children!  BUT they did, of course, as the Kindergarten team leader went over pages of things we needed to know.

Then we were let loose to meet the teachers.  Jordan is in Mr. Bryant's class.  He seems funny and charming.  I think Jordan liked him immediately.  Surprisingly, she neither barked nor meowed!  We were so pleased that she acted mostly like a human.  I can't wait to see how her first week goes.

The Wait is Over

My husband has lots of hobbies.  They consume lots of time and space.  One hobby has taken up the entire garage.  There is always some tool he needs in order to complete a project.  Often he has to use tools in order to make tools that he needs to complete a project.

Me: (Very excited to see him using his tools.  Maybe it will be my new headboard!) What are you making?
Blake: Well, it's a __________.
Me: What's it for?
Blake: I need it so that I can start the _____________.
Me: (Sad face)  :(  (Not my headboard, just another tool)

I am very happy to report that my headboard was completed yesterday!  It is absolutely beautiful.  I feel very much like an adult now that I have a fancy headboard.  Thank you to my wonderful husband!

Side note: I did have to help carry it in.  Ouch!
Perfect!  Michelle was kind enough to help out by taking pictures of us carrying it!

Looks amazing!
